I'm getting my 6-day old 2006 NISMO KC ready to tow a 16 foot tandem
car hauler. After the 500 mile breakin is over. Anyone install the elec
brake controller box? where exactly do you mount it? Got the 5 wire
connector/pigtail from the dealer today so that should make life easier
once I get the controller box in place. then need to check out the 6-pin
trailer connector so I buy the right adapter to make the 7-pin in the new
truck. Going to go retrieve a vintage bullnose Saab in western Colorado
so will give the new truck a good test with the 2200 lb trailer and a 2500
lb car on it..... and a couple or 3 high passes each direction.

i have an 05 frontier nismo, i tow my 23' mobius XLV wakeboard boat, it has
a tandem axle trailer, the boat and trailer weighs about 5000lbs i tow it
straight up a hill climbing about 700 vertical feet from the boat ramp back
to my house and it tows like a champ, never had an issue with it at all. the
frontier is more than capable of towing a good load!

Thanks - Any comments on the brake control box installation? One wire
marked ILL on the Nissan access. pigtail is a mystery.

this web site sells a harness that plugs in under the dash and splices into the brake controller. It looks easy enough. the instructions say there is a connector next to the diagnostic port on the driver side and you just plug in the harness and then splice it to the back of the controller. i think i would mount the controller in front of the shifter in the center console.

I own a 2005 4 door 4WD Frontier. We(myself,wife,daughter,dog and all our gear) used the truck last summer to tow our 18Ft Sea Ray(3000#'s Boat and Trailer empty weight) from Indio CA to Black Meadow Landing at Lake Havasu. Notice I put empty weight. After fueling the boat and packing all our gear, who knows what it weighs. We used to tow with a 2002 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner and it did alright (emergecy braking was scary) but with the Frontier we somtimes forget there is a boat and trailer behind us. So unless you are planning to upgrade to a bigger heavier boat you will be very happy with a Frontier. We are! Hope they have your new Frontier in the color you want!
As far as the question on the trailer brake controller installation, have you got that resolved. If not let me know, I installed the trailer brake harness, trailer brake controller, receiver hitch, relay jumpers, and 7 pin connector at the hitch on my truck. I think i might be able to answer a question or two that you may have. It was all very easy.

Thanks for the responses on my brake controller questions....
I ended up mounting the control box on the far left next (to the left) of
the hood release - seems like a small recess there just the right size and I
screwed it to the dash steel frame channel behind the plastic valence.
Also bought the Nissan accessory pigtail that plugs into the prewire 5 pin
connector. I aonly needed the 4 for my installation - the 5th (marked ILL)
is apparently for a controller that has an illumination feature. Mine does
not - just a basic glowing LED and level & gain & manual switches. Only
problem was inadvertently touching the brake light pigtail to ground and
blowing the 10 amp fuse on my truck brake lights. I guess that's why the
suggest disconnecting batt neg while installing......JavaScript:

I have everything operational and tested to the point of skidding the 4
tires on my trailer then backing off a bit on the gain. Monday I go to
Monte Vista, CO to pick up a car I bought, so that will be the first big test
of truck and trailer with maybe 4500# in tow. Tom

well my brother bought a boat in georgia and my 2005 frontier crew cab pulled it 250 miles to the house at 85 miles per hour and truthfully I never knew it was there the boat is about 2800-3000 pounds oh the 1 thing I did notice was the gas damm it will drink when towing

On my 500 mile trip to Monte Vista I got about 15 mpg round trip - going
out with 2200# empty trailer and back with a 2500# car on it..... 6
mountain passes to 11,200 ft. Tom

I have an 04 Nissan Frontier and a 03 220 Wellcraft Coastal. My frontier is 2wd and has no problem pulling my boat out of the water (my fathers truck is an 05 Chevy Silverado V-8 and it spins alot more than mine on the launch, probably due to bed length and weight on rear tires). However, my boat loaded with gear, fuel and trailer is approx 5500 lbs (the 04's tow rating). I bought the truk thinking I could pull it around town an still manage to get decent mileage on the everyday commute. Well the first part was right. I have no problem pulling the boat around town. I only get 17-18 MPG without the boat, interstate or not. I have gotten the truck to 60 on a good downhill with the boat, but that is white knuckle driving, I imagine a loaded rig could stop quicker. Overall, I have been dissapointed in the hauling performance of my truck. It is great for the 1-2 mile trip to the launch, but the 25-30 mile trip to the neighboring cities launch is an epic adventure. Anyways I give you guys with the 05-up frontier props. I wish I would have waited. I am much more impressed with the styling and performance of them.

I've only done easy recovery towing. I have a shackle for the reciever and a 20' strap. I did notice, with about 200mi on my 06, I drove out to a friend's place in WV with no trailer or anything and about 200lb of camping gear in the bed, and the cruise control had trouble in 6th gear up some of the hills. 4LO will pull a GMC Sierra out of a hole on the beach. It was resting on the frame, both rear wheels spinning and digging, the Fronty got it out, no prob.
