i JUST BOUGHT THIS 08 FRONTIER 4.0 ENGINE ABOUT A WEEK AGO.  iT ONLY HAS 24K MILES ON IT, UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY.  WHEN CHECKING FLUIDS I NOTICED THAT THE RADIATOR AND A/F SLUSH TANK BOTH HAD OIL IN IT. i DROVE IT TO THE DEALER THIS MORNING, THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION COOLER INSIDE THE RADIATOR HAD FAILED, IT WILL BE 2 WEEKS OR SO BEFORE I GET MY TRUCK BACK. HE SAID HE HAS SEEN 2 OTHER FRONTIERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM?

I hope they plan on replacing the transmission as well as the radiator.

The service tech. called this morning and said they were replacing the transmission, radiator, and flushing all the lines. All new parts were ordered this morning, and hopefully i will be on the road in a week or so. I really like this crew cab frontier, i had a 2002 model for 4 years with almost no problems on it except an O-2 sensor.

Get the truck back tomorrow morning, 5031.00 in parts plus several hours labor @ 89.00 per hour, glad it was under warranty.  THere is a recall on the gas tank sensor, but will take it back later for that recall.

When i picked my truck up, i discovered i still had a bunch of residual transmission fluid in my new radiator and over flow tank. When i complained to the service tech. he told me to bring the truck back in, he called after one day, and said truck is ready to go, he stated they completely flushed the system 8-9 times to get the left over oil out of my cooling system. I hope everything  turns out ok with this truck, as i really like it.

I was thinking about trading it in on a new ranger after all this hassle with the truck, but i do believe the frontier is a better truck over all, time will tell.

I really like the performance and economy of this vehicle, plus the power disc brakes on each wheel is a really nice feature.

I would suggest putting on an external AT cooler, I will be doing that shortly...

Truck seems to be doing ok now, i have warranty for 60k miles on the power train or 3 more years, so i aint' gonna sweat the new radiator going bad. Sure was a pain in the butt scenario tho.

The rad is not power train, if it fails and takes out the trans, the primary failed part is the rad , which is only 3yrs/36K miles, even though it takes out the rad, the dealer may not cover the trans. I may be mistaken, need to check owners manual for correct coverage. Getting late and I'm beat!

I have a 07 Crew cab and have converted my trans cooler to external as I had heard abou this problem. No longer have to worry about the lines going through the radiator.
