Hey all:  My 97 Hardbody 4x4 vibrates between 2100-2600 rpm, most noticable at 35-45mph.  Shakes the truck noticablely.  Vacant passenger seat headrest moves back and forth about 1/2 inch.  Had tires rebalanced and swapped around at shop 3 times. Also checked for roundness and tires OK.  Driveline is 2 piece and longer shaft was rebalanced.  Mechanic said carrier bearing is OK.  Truck has 110,000 on it.  4 cyl, that runs smooth and great.  Vibration less when clutch pushed in,  less when under hard acceleration or deacceleration.  Seems to be the worst with just lightly pushing the gas.  Higher RPMs reduces problem but still there.

Have read a whole bunch of posts here and at other forums.  My chief suspect is a harmonic balancer (not too costly)  or a out of balance flywheel (big $$).  One other thing posted is an out of alignment short driveshaft because of the carrier bearing.  Seems to be 1/4 inch of movement in carrier bearing.

Any other ideas or tools for diagnosing.   Local Big O did the tire balancing but are at the end of their knowledge.  Have to solve it myself or go to another shop.

Help much appreciated.

The u-joints in the rear shaft have to be in the same
"plane", meaning the cross joints have to be parallel to
each other(no twist). I don't know how else to explain it.

i dont know if this matters or not but i used to have an old square body truck. (isuzu to be exact) but besides that... it had a two peice drive shaft too and since the carrier bearring is not and exact fitting bearring, no ball bearrings and such there is a tendancy for it to have some "play" i wouldnt worry about the 1/4". mine had probably 1\2" lol it didnt vibrate at any speed or what not.. i know if the drive shaft isnt balanced that could cause lots of problems but who on earth would install a unbalanced drive shaft is beyond me..
