I have problem with the instrument panel (on a 1998 Frontier) I think is being caused by a failed chip since more than one gauge is affected. The fuel gauge, spedometer, temperature gauge, odometer work only intermittently, with either all working or none. The panel lights are not affected. When the problem appears, the fuel gauge goes to full, the temp. gauge goes all the way to hot, the odometer reads all 9's, and the spedometer goes up to 20 mph at highway speed. Is there a chip or module or something that controls all these, and if so where is it and is it easily accessible? Is this a common problem?

I have heard of a bad ground wire causing these problems, check the connections and harnesses.

Common problem with these instrument clusters. We repair these and many other instrument clusters at a very reasonable price. Visit Mr. Whizard Technical Services for more information.
