I have a 2000 4cyl regular cab automatic.

First the A/C wouldn't work sometimes. I would have to turn it
off and on to get it to work. Eventually that didn't work
either. I've been going without A/C for so long. It has lots
of coolant. I'm not sure what to check next. Ideas?

If memory serves me correctly, that model may have had a
concern with the A/C line cracking @ the compressor. Thermo
control amp.??? Many possibilities. Have you searched this
forum for ideas ?

I was thinking it might be the thermo control assy. At one
point it was showing symptoms for that conclusion, but now it
doesn't work at all. Replacing that little part is $50, so
there must be a way to first test to see if that is the issue.
Is there a way to hot wire the a/c to see if it would work
before buying this part or a way to test the thermo control
assy
?

..

What part of the AC system is not working.
Have you tried hot wiring the clutch on the pump?
In should click with the engine not running.
The thermo control turns the clutch on and off.

Good luck.. Don S..

I had this issue before and the culprit is the thermostat,
then the second time i had this problem the culprit was the
a/c fan (cooling fan). Many possibilities just like what
frontier guy said. Lots of a/c parts that might be
malfunctioning or leaking.
