The smell of transmission fluid (75/90wt, M/T) is coming
up through shifter. A bit overwhelming on road trips.
Replacement of shift boot, or is there more under there
that needs to be replaced?
Thx
-Drew

No that I think about it, does the M/T transmission case
have a breather/vent for expanding gases to escape, like
the front and rears diffs would? Perhaps, if there is a
breather, it is clogged.

..

I have no idea about the breather.
The gears spin the oil around the case violently so there would have to be a baffle to protect a breather.
I made a breather of sorts on a '66 Rambler manual, The rear seal was leaking a little putting oil on the back glass. I didn't have the correct tools to fix it so...
I drilled a hole in the drain plug and fitted a copper tube in it and used J.B.Weld!
It was like a dip-stick check tube and I added a little vacuum to it. That fixed the problem!

BTW.. The Rambler had a fuel pump that had a vacuum booster in it to run the windshield wipers.

Good Luck.. Don S..
