I had an oil analysis performed on my 02 Frontier 2.4L and I was advised I had high levels of Potassium (30 ppm) and Sodium (72 ppm) which was an indication that coolant was present in the oil. I monitor my coolant levels which have not changed in 2 years since I flushed my radiator. Has anyone every had a similar lab report? There is no sign of glycol in the oil and it has usual appearance.

Has the level in the Engine Oil Changed?

If AT, check it also.  Drive for about 10 mile's or so at moderate speed, Stop, leave engine running, move shift through all the gears, put in Park, leave engine running and check the dipstick;

Is the level correct for Hot Range, what does the Fluid look like?

Both the engine oil and AT fluid are at the normal levels and both are normal color. The Oil Analyst indicated that with Potassium levels of 30 PPM it was likely that I had a small coolant leak into the engine oil.

Might want to try a different company for analysis.

You could take it to Nissan and have them do a pressure test on the Coolant System.

If it were me,, I might just keep a close watch on the Oil & Level,, as well at the Coolant and AT Fluid.

I've never done an Oil Analysis,, but I kept my '93 KC AT 2wd for 20 year's, and it was running good after I bought a '13 KC AT 2wd and sold it.

Good Luck

Thanks. My plan is to change oil and filter brands on the next oil change and then have the oil retested at another lab as a control. If I still have high potassium / sodium upon the retest I will take it to my mechanic to have the coolant system pressure tested. If I have an internal coolant leak it would likey be a head gasket, intake manifold gasket or perhaps oil cooler.

Dawg,

Just a suggestion;  I've alway's been told to use a Nissan Oil Filter, and that's what I've alway's done.  Be wary of Fram.

Sounds like you have a good plan.
