Last winter I noticed that whenever I was
on 4 wheel drive hi or Lo in my 2001
nissan frontier se there was a clicking
sound. I had assumed it was the cv axles
so I replaced those and the wheel bearings
just before we got some snow this year.
Today I test drove it in the snow and that
sound is still there however whenever I do
use 4 wheel drive I can feel something
bind up and then brake free. Could this
mean I have a stretched chain in my
transfer case?

..

Did you buy it new?
Check the lube throughout the running gear check for metallic powder.
Are the hubs auto?
My LSD rear Has lightly felt that way on turns ever since it was new in turns and worse when cold. But I love it.

Good luck. Don S..
