Recently had to remove old exhaust system as the salt and calcium
rotted the whole thing. Rather than purchase another stock system,
my buddy suggested and AFE stainless system. Seemed like a
good idea, stainless, better flow etc. The product arrived, and
removed old system and started to install new without a lot of grief
...biggest problem was with the studs. However, the down side is
that at idle it is a little harsh but at load, I cannot stand the noise...it
is a freaking ungodly drone.

Update: Removed the end tip and welded on an extension in
stainless with a Supertrapp, which is made of stainless steel and
can be adjusted by adding or removing the stainless plates to
eliminate a good portion of the drone. So I am running with four
plates that ended the drone noise without a noticeable performance
drop.

Living here in the east coast and in some of the last real wooded
areas near PA, the winter roads are coated with salt to keep the
backroads stable otherwise your Hans Brinker with rubber skates.
Usually, the truck becomes white from the salt and I have to mix up a
couple of gallons of baking soda and warm water to power spray it
off. I have bed-coated a lot of exposed areas of the frame that get
pounded with stones and debris and generally use Eastwoods
expoxy frame coatings before and after every winter.

..

Stealth... The only way to fly!!!

There is a muffler like deal called a resonator or something like that. The old Cadillac cars had them in the tail pipe near the bumper. That should quiet the system down and be easy to replace.
Are the hangers in your system insulated
It might last until you move to Ft. Worth. What is this rust stuff you speak of?

JK.. Good Luck.. Don S..

The hangers are all mounted on factory insulators which believe it or not
actually lined up.....a first for aftermarket! After removing the old
system, which was just falling apart, I noticed an interesting piece of
hardware mounted on the rear pipe which consisted of a rubber nob
molded on to a bracket. Before I threw it into the metal scrap pile I
began to think that I might want to re-use it, so I mounted it on the rear
portion of the 3" pipe ( yes they mandrel bent it with enough clearance
to avoid problems ) over the axle as the stock system and noticed that
it actually took away some of the pipe vibrations. So far I think I may
have solved most of my problems...
