When I cold start my 2019 Frontier, the rpm jumps to 3500 or more for a few
seconds then settles to 1500 for a fews more.. The warm, idle is normal. Is
this normal? I cringe when I hear the engine roaring on a cold start. Thanks.

..

I heard that... In the old days I'd crank the engine 30 seconds
before turning on the key switch. Later on my 1999 V-6 I used
Pennzoil synthetic 2 cycle outboard oil in the gasoline. two to
four oz per gallon.
Its high temperature oil and a great upper lube. My truck is over
20 years old.
I bought it new and it still starts and runs like new.

Surly the high RPM is adjustable in the computer.

Good luck.. Don S..

ARK,

Mine did almost the same thing, 2013 V6 Frontier when I
bought it New. It's settled down to a little bit over
2K Rpm's Now, at First Cold Startup and like your's
quickly settle's down to 1.5K Rpm's and gradually
settle's down to about 6 hundred more or less after the
engine get's to normal operateing Temperature.

I've never much liked this but they weren't able to
adjust the cold idle down on mine.

Since it wasn't adjustable on mine,, I figured it was
best to stay with Nissan's Suggested 5w30 viscosity
Oil. Do as your Owner's Manual say's to use. If your
manual say's to use Full Synthetic then use it along
with the Viscosity that the Owner's manual say's to
use.

I started out with Castrol GTX 5w30, which is a Blend
till about 12K mile's and then went to Castrol Full
Synthetic Magnatec 5w30. WalMart has the best price on
5qt Jug, which is only about 3 $'s more than the GTX.

Watch this Video about Castrol Full Synthetic Magnatec:

Another thing I Strongly Advise is to stay with a
GENUINE NISSAN OIL FILTER. I get mine from either
Amazon or Ebay, and I make sure they are from a Nissan
Dealership. Yes Nissan Dealer Part's Department's sell
on Amazon and Ebay, ususally at a Lower price online
than at the Dealership.

Many V6 Owner's Complain about Engine Rattle on
Startup,, but My Engine has never Rattled on Startup
and I make sure to use a Genuine Nissan Oil Filter.
Meany will say Bah Humbug, but I say, My Engine
Doesn't Rattle on Startup.

I also Strongly Advise to Follow the Guideline Nissan
Recommend's for the Engine Break-In Period that is also
in the Owner's Manual, if you want your Engine to last
a long time. I also let the engine warm up till the
Idle speed falls down to normal operateing temperature
speed. Common Sense tell's me, it's not good to Throw
it into Drive with High Engine RPM's.

What's Going On with the Razorback Football? Hope
this next season will be better.

Regards,
