I was at my local Nissan dealer and they had a Nismo w/6spd and no auto on the lot so I asked to drive it and fell in love.  I currently have a 2002 Focus SVT which also has a 6spd and I'm passing my vehicle to my son in a few months so I've been thinking about a truck.

I was wondering if anyone had an automatic Nismo addition and if they had tested both before making a decision.  The thought of an auto sounds good.  In 30 years of driving, I've only had one auto and that was my 93 Ford Bronco.  Even my 90 Toyota pickup v6 was a 5 speed.

So which to buy is the question????  Auto or 6spd.?

I have the NISMO with the Auto Transmission and like it.  However, when I was looking there were no 6 speeds available, so I have never driven the 6 speed model.  I'm not sure I would have purchased the 6 speed anyway because with my commute, it would be a lot of stop and go in the city.  The auto is much easier for that type of driving.  Also, there are a couple of options that were only available on the Auto Transimmion, one being the Traction Control which includes the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and the other is the Side Curtain Airbags!  Not sure why Nissan does this because both are safety options that a lot of people would like to have, and which transmission you choose shouldn't limit the safety options you can add!  Anyway, that and the constant shifting in city traffic pretty much convinced me the auto was the way to go.  On the other hand, if you don't do a lot of stop and go driving, and you don't care one way or the other about side airbags and VDC, from what I've read on these forums, the 6 speed does get between 2-5 mpg better gas milage than the NISMO Automatic (Which by the way, seems to get the worse gas milage of any of the V6 models).  Hope this helps a little.

Thanks.  Living in Maine, most of the roads I drive on are quite and I average 50-60 mph on back roads going to work which is a 20 miles commute each way.  I think I'm leaning towards the 6 spd. as much as an auto sounds so much less work...but with a 2-5 mpg difference, I suppose one never gets too old to shift..
