I have a 2005 Frontier XE. I'm experiencing a problem with cold starts which have been getting worse.  I have also noticed a loud fan like noise at start-up and this noise is also present above 2000 rpm in  the first two gears.  I just had the plugs changed at 160 kms.  The mechanic noticed that I have a leak in my valve cover and that oil is getting into the plug wells.  I also have the fuels sending unit failure that so many of these trucks have experienced.  Any advice as to what I should consider prior to taking it to the dealership?  Thanks.

Noise sounds like a fan clutch that needs to be replaced. Hard start could be many things - throttle body needs cleaning -clear self learn-IAVL- fuel pump pressure regulator-dirty MAFS, etc.

Great diagnosis frontierguy.  As you suggested fan clutch and fuel pump were faulty.

Thanks again!

Gary, could you please describe the fan noise?  My Fan seems like it is blowing more air and my truck is no accelerating as much as before.  Did your Frontier do this?

Fan noise will sound like a prop plane at take off.  You can't miss it!
