Ok, I have been to three different car stereo stores and searched on Crutchfield for the exact sizes for speaker replacement.  Is it 6x9's in the front and 6.5's in the back or 6.5's all around?  I don't want to take the door covers off to look.

Thanks,  Brian

6x9 in the front, 6.5 in the rear.

Be careful with the front -- the speakers are installed in plastic spacer tubes that are attached to the door frame.  You absolutely CANNOT put in speakers that are deeper than this spacer tube.  Crutchfield lists max mounting depth at 3.014".  I installed Alpine 3-ways that were 3.125", and they fit, but anything much deeper won't work.

Is it possible to put 6.5" in the front?  I got the POlk components from Crutchfield and they listed 6.5" as the front fit.  I would imagine the adapter kit will allow this?

I think it all depends upon which year and package your frontier is.

Thanks, I picked up some Polk 6.5's for the rear from a coworker for $50 so now I just have to get the 6x9's  Did you install them yourself?  I hate taking off the door panels, in fear of them not going back on right.

This is a very late reply but perhaps worthwhile for someone in the future.  Two things to consider, both learned from trial and error:
First, the speaker depth clearance may be OK with the windows UP, but can  become insufficient when you wind them down.  A lowered window in Frontier can slap the spkr magnet (you'll hear it), and with enough door slamming may shatter inside the door.  My 04 required a 1/2" spacer with Alpines that were *supposed* to be shallow enough.
Second, anytime you start using spacers,  the electrical connections on the speakers might come in contact with the door metal.  So tape (insulate) the section of speaker cutout in the door closest to the connectors.  Also wrap the connectors with several small pieces of tape.   Scotch Super 33 is a good electrical tape.  NOTE:  The Frontier stock radio apparently has overload protection and will shut down the audio amp if there is a speaker short.   Fix the short and it will work again. Or don't fix it and tell your wife you need a new Kenwood.

Looking through Crutchfield, I see that you can put a 6x9 in front and a 6.5/6.75  in back. I used the "What fits my vehicle?" option on their site, plugging in a 2005 KC with 4 speakers, assuming you don't have the 6-speaker configuration.  You can also use 6-3/4 or smaller sizes all around, with Crutchfield's supplied adaptors.

They recommend only ONE 6x9 that will fit: the Alpine Type-R SPR-69LP, 2-way Speaker ($160).   The others that fit the front are, from cheapest to most expensive:
 Kenwood KFC-1669S, 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers
 Pioneer TS-G1340R, 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers
 Kicker 05KS525, 5-1/4" 2-Way Speakers
 Kicker 05KS60, 6-1/2" 2-Way Speakers
Boston Acoustics S65RC, 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers Shallow Mount
Infinity Kappa 50.7cs, 5-1/4" Component System
Boston Acoustics Pro50, 5-1/4" Component System

The available rear speakers, from  cheapest to most expensive, are:

Blaupunkt PCxb542, 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers
Blaupunkt PCxb652, 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers
JVC CS-V624, 6-1/2" 2-Way Speakers
Kenwood KFC-1669S, 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers

Polk Momo MMC 650, 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers
Infinity Kappa 50.7cs, 5-1/4" Component System
Boston Acoustics Pro50, 5-1/4" Component System

If you like the sound of the 6x9, you might stick with it and go the Alpine route, front and rear.  Some prefer round speakers over ovals, and would tend to choose the Kickers, Boston or component systems - again keeping the same brands front and rear. Unless you actually need size adapters, connectors, etc. and can ONLY find them at Crutchfield, you can shop elsewhere on the Net and possibly save about 25%.   Hope this helps.
