'05 Frontier, 4 L, 6 Spd.

Just under 30K miles changed the oil in transmission with GL4-75/85 as specified in manual.

Next day when truck was cold noticed a slight grind/snag on the 1-2 upshift and the transmission was pretty stiff. This happened only a couple of times until the truck was driven a couple of miles and things warmed up.

Took it to the dealer and they changed the fluid again as they decided it had the wrong oil.......despite the listing in the owners manual.

Next day same problems existed. Took it back a week later and they couldn't replicate the problem so sent it home with me.

Took it this week to another dealer and they once again said it had the wrong fluid in it. They sampled the fluid to determine this as well as spoke to someone at the first dealer to find out what was used in it.

I now have an appointment with the first dealer to replace current fluid with what should be the correct oil.

However, I'm not holding my breath that this oil swap will stop the grinding and stiffness as it turns out that the very first oil was correct and that's when the problem began.

Anyone here have similar problem and any comments?

Thanks, Steve

Yes, I do! I have an '06 SE CC. At 36k I had all fluids replaced except p/s and brake. The very next morning the stick almost didn't want to go into 2nd, and downshifting 2-1 was about impossible. I called my dealer, because I had noted that this transmission specifies a particular fluid. He stated that it was used in my fluid change but "bring it in and we'll cut it 50/50 with a thinner gear oil. Only happens when it's cold, but I miss the silky-smooth shifting I always used to get before I paid them a C-note to $&%^ it up. I'm going to print out your post and take it to my dealer. I wil get back to you on what I hear.

Thanks for the post!

Mark

Sounds like you guys need a transmission fluid with better cold temperature flow properties.  Switch to a synthetic and life will be good again.  AMSOIL makes the best!

Just a note on my transmission troubles.

Finally have the solution. After having the local dealer put the wrong oil in my transmission twice I switched to Redline MTL full synthetic and the transmission is back to it's normal operation. Shifts fine even now that we're getting some colder temps here in NC.

Very smooth in the AM's, no snagging or stiff shifting.

Steve
