My 2001 Frontier CC (2WD, 5 sp) has been emitting a loud "groaning" type of sound when the clutch is depressed and the engine is turning over 2500 RPM or so. It typically does it when the shifter is moved from one gear to another, though it will also do it sometimes if I depress the clutch but don't change gears.

It was pretty intermittent, but now it's fairly consistent. There is a slight resonance that can be felt in the shifter while this is happening, but otherwise the clutch appears to be operating normally. A friend who used to own a Pathfinder said it happened to him and it was a "pivot" bearing that was out of round, and eventually it went away. I was wondering if maybe it was a pilot bearing, but not sure...

If anyone has had a similar issue, or has heard of it, I'd love to know more details...

Thx,

Frenchy

Sounds like your friend is right on the money.  Did you recently have the clutch changed?

If not, your clutch relese bearing (friends pivot bearing) might be starting to fail.

That doesn't sound too good. I haven't had the clutch replaced - I've got 94,000 miles on it and I tow a trailer that weighs about 2,000 lbs at least 1,000 miles a year, so the big hit might be coming...
