I have a check engine code P0456, evap control system small leak.  What exactly is this referring to.  What is the evap control system.  Any common problems associated with this part of the vehicle.

Don't know if I can help you other than telling you that I experienced the same problem with my 05 Frontier King Cab. The engine warning light came on and told me the same code as you have experienced. It is about a $300 repair, and in my state, it is needed to pass inspection.

The same code has just shown up on my 04 Frontier.  I tried changing the gas cap but it still has come on.  It takes about 2 weeks for it to come back on after I reset it.  It has been coming on a day after I fill it up.  Any solutions what it may be?? I really don't want to take it to the dealership if it is something I can fix myself.  My dealership has airhead mechanics!

I have the same problem that started on my 2000 Frontier.  I have a large evap leak and I also now now am starting to see a knock sensor idicator.  But I'm not sure if the code from the knock sensor is that it's bad, or if it simply made a correction from when I was hauling a car on a 19 foot flatbed.

Cheers,

:Isaac:

farkis and 02fronis... I need the specifics on your vehicles and can research the code.  I need the following

Year
Model (LE etc)
4x4 or 4x2
Motor (V6 or I-4)

After the last time I had the code reset, the light came on about a week later.  SO I left it alone.  Then about a week after that the light went out on its own and has not come back on since.  I have a 2004 Crew cab XE v6 3.3L 4x4.

If you have done a body lift check the fuel vent lines on top of the tank also check the lines that go to the charcoal filter box under the bed.

Farkis... I read through the diagnostic on that code.  Let's just say I have a hard time explaining it.  It can be one of a few things... mainly because that code deals with the ENTIRE fuel system.  Oh YAY

02Fronis... try checking you fuel cap.  Here is what it gives for inspecting that area.

-Check for proper operation.  Try tightening down and listening for ratcheting sound.  Inspect the thread areas for debris that could interfere with the cap.

-Listen for air releasing sound when you first open the gas cap

If these check out just fine, and the code still doesn't go away.  you will have to take it into the stealership.  Or have a Snap-On Modis equavilant scanner.
