Try some WD-40 on the spots then seal it with something to keep it from spreading. What year and model is it?

I got an 01 Frontier.  I tried neverdull on it and the wd40 none worked.  There's got to be something out there that'll dissolve and kill the rust.

Naval jelly will work but it could attack the metal.  Try it on a small area first.

Buy the Duro 01-80276 80276 8 Oz Naval Jelly at Hardware World - The world's #1 home hardware site

Thanks everybody for the input.  I tried using the wd-40 again.  But this time I let it soak in for 15 minutes.  Then I used a screwdriver and coarse steel wool and carefully scraped the rust away.  IT WORKED!  Luckily it was only surface rust so the chrome finish was still there.  I then applied the nevrdull again and buffed it to a shine.  Awwwrite!  Peace

What's up yall.  Since we're on the subject of rust, anybody got any ideas on what to use to stop rust on exhaust components?  I got a little bit of rust forming on parts of my exhaust system.  surfahjammer

..

surfahjammer;

Any time you’re in an ocean breeze coming from a breaking surf there is a lot of salt being put on and in your truck. Oxygen, salt and steel equal automatic rust. Best solution move to Aridzona or install a stainless-steel system.

Rust has ‘roots’ that penetrate deeply in many metals. Paint can only slow it down.

Lakota  have a good one and se you later… Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State . A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer!

Get some double boiled linseed oil and mix it with turpentine until it can be sprayed from a quirt bottle, about 5 parts oil to 1 part turpentine. Spray it into all the rust prone areas from inside the wheel wells, trunk, under the doors etc. Just make sure you go by with a rag later and wipe any excess that comes dripping out. This stuff will stain your garage floor so use some poly. I have an old bodyman buddy who tells me thats how they did it in the old days and I've been doing it for all my vehicles. Works like a damn but this stuff does harded in a few days so keep an eye on the dripping.
