Here's my disgusting problem.  I own a 2000 Frontier 3.3 v6 4x4.

I recently had to change the 5 speed transmission because it was leaking through a crack in the aluminum casting.  Changed it no problem. I also decided to change the clutch as well.  Went to carparts.com and I noted many of those listed transmissions that were already cracked.

Does Nissan have an underlying problem here? Many truck is 8 years old, one original driver, never been off-road, never stuck, just 62,000 plain ordinary paved city streets,  they quoted $3600 to replace, not repair trans mission.  I have spent more on this truck for maint since the warranty expired than  I have spent on my 300ZX in 20 years.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I searched and all I could find is that the some xterras have that problem because the crack happens in a place where there is a lot of stress on the case and that in production they cannot weld on this specific spot. Also that living in the northern US where they use salt on the roads in the winter  makes this problem worse. And if im not mistaken...the xterra is based on the frontier chassis. But this was the automatic trans.  and you have the manual.

Do you live in somewhere they use salt on the roads? Has the truck ever been wrecked?

They use salt on the roads up north here, plenty of salt.  However the truck has only 62,000 miles, and no accidents with this vehicle. Strictly driving city streets, never off roading. Useful to get to the streams for weekend fishing. Never intended to be polluting the streams
