What's up all.  My bros got an ac issue.  When his ac is on it's super cold.  But once in awhile it shuts down like the compressor switches off or something.  It could run good for an hour and then shut down for an hour.  Does anybody know what this problem could be?  Peace

..

surfahjammer;

Most likely the evaporator core in the cab is icing up all that moisture in that Hawaiian atmosphere. Then the thermistor shuts down the compressor until the ice melts and the air can warm up the thermistor.

Have a good one.. Don S..

I live in Louisiana where the humidity is really high, and I know that if  a central AC in a house is low on freon it will freeze up. I would assume that the same thing could happen to a truck's AC but im not an expert. Check to see if its full, you should be able to buy a can of coolant at your local auto parts store......that is if your truck  was built in the last 10 or 12 years.

Good luck!

surfahjammer;

One cause is some A/Cs have a much colder output.

... When first started, an A/C system will dry the air in a sealed area by condensing the moisture on the evaporator core and letting I drip out the drain. But later when the area / evaporator is already cold if a fresh amount of moisture is introduced the A/C will freeze more readily.

... If the fresh air intake is open, or doors or windows get opened more warm moisture is available for freezing.

My old '66 Rambler would blow snow out the vents on a 110 degree day.

EDIT... Slower flowing air may help cause freeze-up.

 Have a good one and see you later… Don S..

It would be nice if our members would add their vehicle information to their signature (similar to mine) plus add their City and State .

A member in the same town might be willing to drop by and help you with a problem. Or drink all your beer! One took my wife!... J/K
