I have just been informed by the dealer that I need a new ECM (Engine Control Module.) I have a 2000 / V6 / Crew Cab, and was wondering where this part is located?  Is this a "plug and play" part? Is there a detailed process to change this component?

Thanks---

WHY? What is the concern or malfunction? It is located at the base of the center console(look to the right of the throttle pedal). Can't remember if 00 has programmable keys or not(brain fart).

...dealer could not communicate with the truck with any of their equipment.   ECM was diagnosed as the problem.  The engine has been running rough.  There is a Cat converter check engine light (P0430), but the dealer noted that a bad ECM could be triggering a false check engine light.

Most cases, if the ECU is bad, the engine will not run, especially if there is no communication with the scan tool. It is a Nissan dealer that is checking it, correct??? If there is no communication, how did they retrieve the code for the cat?? I think I would find another dealer to check it out. Has the ECU been exposed to any moisture from the A/C evap drain being plugged. This is evident by corrosion on the ECU housing.
