aloha all

i've got a squeaking crankshaft pulley that's going to
need to be replaced here soon. what i'm wondering is, is
this a good time to replace/repair any other items at the
same time? i don't have millions of dollars to do
everything that maybe could be done, but i don't want to
miss an opportunity to do something that should be,
saving a bit of cash perhaps by having the mechanic only
tear things apart once.

i am at just over 77,000 miles on this 2002 XE Crew Cab,
4x4 with the 3.3l V6

things i was thinking of:
- timing belt
- water pump
- leaking head and valve cover gaskets

Any thoughts, experiences, etc… would be greatly
appreciated!

The pulley is not that big of a deal to replace, but the
other items you mention are quite extensive. How serious is
the head gasket leak? Is there any noise from the timing
belt area?(if loose, it will sound like the distributor
bearing is noisy).

actually upon further review looks like head gaskets are
fine, just oil leaking at the valve cover gaskets.
no noise from timing belt

and now the next problem, how freaking annoying it is to
try and get things shipped to hawaii....

thanks frontierguy!

Figured i could ask on this topic. So a while back i drove my truck to the
store and came out to find it would only turn over and not start (posted
about it a while back). Got it pulled apart right now and i'm stuck trying
to removed the crankshaft pulley, i'm about to go pick up a puller right
now but wanted to ask. it seems like the largest pulley to the rear is the
only one moving while i pry on it (per haynes book). My timing belt is fully
in tack and dont look dry rot or anything but there is a decent amount of
slack from the belt running down to the crack shaft, Also whenever i
manually move the crankshaft back and forth, the cams do not move. if
my crank pulley happens to be broken, could this be my non start
issue?? Thanks guys! Happy new year!!

..

Sadly frontierguy has not posted in quite a while.
I hope someone else can lend a hand here.

It might be better to post this on your other thread.
If you do I can erase this one… either way is OK with me.

Wish I could help.. Don S..

Bob,

Well, when you get the Crankshaft Pulley, and Timeing Belt Cover off,, then You'll be able to see fully what is going on with the Timeing Belt, and why the Cam's are not moveing.

Sure hope that the Timeing Belt hasn't Skipped a Cog or 2 and caused the Valve's to get bent, but you'll know more after you get the Crankshaft Pulley and Cover off.

HTH & Good Luck
