I have a 1996 Nissan Pickup, 4 cylinder 4WD, manual.
165K miles on the truck.

I just got a job driving a truck over the road.
I only have to go to work 3 times a month, but I have to
drive 95 miles to get there.
I am on the original water pump. If that goes out while
going down I26 one morning on the way to work, I won't
make it to work that day.
Bad deal for me the dispatcher will not be happy.

Should I go ahead and change out the water pump?

I would not do it myself my garage would.

Its really up to you.  If it's not leaking I would not change it myself.  There are several parts on your truck that *could* break and leave you stranded but from a $$$ point of view it would not make sense to replace every possible part that might break.  Your water pump could die tomorrow, or 2 years from now.  I've had them last over 300,000 km's before, and some less than 100k.
