Before--slow to decellerate, but had (proper)cold start high idle, and good idle (slower than cold) when warm.

Took IAC valve off and cleaned the pintle. Now,engine decellerates fine, but I don't have the cold/fast idle at cold start up.As a result of the cold/fast idle not working, when cold starting-the idle is very slow (however is fine when warm) and engine will stall unless I press the accelerator pedal (at cold start),and CEL has come on with P0505 (IAC) and P0400 (EGR) codes.I'm assuming these codes came about from the engine almost stalling a couple of times.Seems I fixed one problem only to creat another.

Does'nt take long after initial/cold start to warm up,idle fine and run fine.I also want to mention that when I first got this truck,I had to slow the idle down a bit by turning an adjuster recessed in the TB under the fast idle solenoid.

So,should I go ahead and replace the IAC valve,or are there any more checks?

#1 please refresh on what you are working on(maybe list
your vehicle in your signature)
#2 if that screw had a lock nut and paint on it, it is not supposed to be touched.(factory set)

The cold start is controlled by the wax pellet assy. The
idle adjust screw is on the IAC assy accessable from the
front of the throttle chamber assy. The throttle position
sensor harness needs to be disconnected in order to
properly adjust idle(or use Consult 2 scan tool). I tried
to copy and paste the instructions from Alldata with no
luck, I need an email address to send it to.

I'm new to this site and hope I am putting my issue in
the correct place. I have a 2015 Frontier V6 with about
2000 miles. When I start it cold, the idle jumps
anywhere between 2300 RPM and has went as high as 2800
RPM. I asked the mechanic at the dealership about it and
he said it was suppose to cold start at these high
RPM's. I'm a retired mechanical engineer and would never
recommend running a cold engine at these high RPM's. On
an older engine it could cause failure or at least,
severe wear. Is there anyway to get the specifications
or idle set points from Nissan. The procedure for
setting them would also be great. mrm@chartertn.net

Welcome to the group!

Yup, I'm with you.
Lot's of RPM on cold starts sucks.
On my old FSJ 401 V-8 Jeep I cranked the engine over before turning the key on. Never had engine problems Never added oil between changes.
My '99 is a little high cold start RPMs. It's low mileage and never had a wrench on anything but lugnuts.

Don't worry... If it needs moving... I can do it!
Knocking on wooden head.. Don S..

Mike,

I have a '13 SVV6 and I also hate the High RPM Cold Engine Speed.  I don't think that it is good for the engine either.  I asked the Service Manager if the Cold Start RPM's could be lowered.  He said yes, and they did an Idle Relearn,, but it didn't help my Truck.

Nissan Recommend's 5w30 and I think that is too thin, for Temperature's here in the Deep South, but I figure useing the Thinner Oil will help get the oil to the TopSide Faster on the High RPM Cold Start's, so that's what I am useing.

On my Previous Nissan Truck, '93 Hardbody 2.4, it didn't have a High Speed Cold Idle.  Nissan also advised 5w30, but on that Truck I used 10w40 from the Getgo,, and it was still running great, 20 year's later, when I sold it after getting the '13 SVV6.

If I find a way to lower the High RPM Cold Engine Start's, I'll gladly get mine lowered.  Until then,, I just grit my teeth, and hope the 5w30 is getting everything lubed.

My advice is to alway's use a Nissan Oil Filter as well, cause on the Cold Engine Start's, the Engine need's all the help that it can get to make sure everything is getting lubricated properly.

If you find a way to lower the RPM's, please let me know.

Good Luck,

..

I think why they call for the light weight oil is to get a better mandated fuel mileage rating from the EPA.

The Toyota dealer has been putting in 0w20 in our '08 Camry since it was new and it hasn't rattled yet.
It's scary but they have to warrantee the dang things!

Have a good one if you can find one.. Don S..

Thanks to all for your replies. I did see where
frontierguy, a master mechanic had spelled out the
details of the adjustment but I do not think or better
yet would not be willing to follow the idle down
directions without an emailed copy from AllData as he
referred to in his reply. It sounds like he definitly
knows the ins and outs of these issues. Is there
somewhere I can obtain the start up specifications or
+/-RPMs that Nissan has in there programming.
