..

Suddenly for the first time I need Internet help... Lucky Me I'm a member here!
Unfortunately it's not my FSJ because I could fix it because I'm an old guy....
It's one of these modern computer jobs.

I took my '99 Frontier 4x4 3.3 automatic in for state inspection today.
They test drove the truck... When I got home I stop lights did not turn off.
I looked under the dash and didn't see any switches near the brake.
I saw a plug on the ABS module But couldn't disconnect it.
I disconnected the two wires on the master cylinder but the lights stayed on.
Finally I pulled the bulbs out to keep the battery from running down and interrupting the computer.

Can some one here figure out where the problem is?

Thanks in advance.. Don S..

Don,

I checked in the '93 Service Manual that I still have for that Truck, that goe's up to '95, and the Brake Light Switch is Activated by the Brake Pedal Arm under the Dash.

I also checked the Service Manual for the '13 that I have now,, and the Brake Light Switch is still in the same location, near the Brake Pedal Arm, under the dash.

I hate it when i have to let someone else drive my Truck.

I'm thinking that the Inspector, depressed the Brake Pedal, and for whatever reason,, just let it spring back,, which may have damaged the Brake Light Switch.

HTH, & Good Luck

A large Thank You Barney!!

As it turns out I didn't look high enough under the dash.
The little plastic bumper on the bracket on the brake peddle arm
broke and I found the piece on the floor.
I did find a couple articles and diagrams on the Internet about replacing the bumpers.
Including one right here but it was about cruse control

Don,

Glad to help, and also glad that you were able to see the problem.

I had the Brake Light Switch to Crumble on the Tractor;  Now I need to figure out why the Flasher's aren't working on the Tractor;  Good to have when Traversing a Roadway.

Have a Good One,

A large Thank You!! To Every body! And the guys at N4W
Here's an up date...
I bought two Nissan Stop light bumpers from the dealership for a total 27 Bucks and the quoted 57 bucks to install.
I have a bad back and hips so I take the frontier in. After 30 minutes they come tell me they have to pull the steering column and it will be $157.00. I tell them "no wayla" and drive off.
Today I shaved the head of a bolt off the size of the Nissan bumpers head (about .105") and installed it.
It didn't work.
So I shaved the head of a bolt to .200" and it worked but I couldn't get the nut on the bolt so I smeared so play dough on the threads so it might not fall out.
If I had bled one wheel cylinder and held the brake peddle down it would have been easier to access.
But I had the wife push on the brake peddle with the engine running. The peddle goes down further with the vacuum brakes.

I took a photo of it but I never saw the hole where the bumper goes. I did it by feel only.

BTW... does anyone know how to remove and replace the head light covers on the 99 Frontiers.

Thanks again.. Don S..
