06 with split inner transmission boot on the shifter.  This is the third and final boot you encounter as you dig in through the centre console.  Mine is split and when I work it hard oil splashes up and out and the odour eventually finds its way into the cab.  I like the smell of heavy gear oil, but most don't.  Problem is that I cannot seems to figure out how to split the shift column and remove the upper extension portion so the boot can come off.  Also not an option to remove the column from the transmission, the boot won't fit over the ball either.

OK, so nevermind.  After much searching and researching I have solved the mystery.  The shift tower is in two pieces, the upper one is called and "extension".  However, the two pieces are mated at the factory with a very tight rubber joint and possibly threaded, either way it is a press fit and cannot be undone.
So the third, final and lowest boot that secures directly to the transmission is removed by cutting it away.  The new boot install is super easy.  Simply lube the tower, and yank the boot down.  It looks like it'll never fit, but it does.  Push it down so it is fairly level and you are done!!
