The guy at the parts store swears I'll see a huge difference in mpg if I change over to a K&N. Does anyone have any experience re: the difference in either performance or mpg? They sure are expensive.

As mentioned many times, they flow a lot air along with a lot of dirt. OK for race applications where longevity and MAFS are not a concern. Better off sticking to the GENUINE NISSAN OIL IMPREGNATED AIR FILTER. Do a search on the K+N, you should find the test this guy did to determine just how much dirt gets by them.

I agree, I tried a K&N once, I did not notice mpg or performance gains.

I've known a few people to have problems running K&N. the oil in them can coat your MAF and cause all sorts of interesting problems.
I stick with AEM's dry filter for my truck, stock filters for my jeep and wife's car. A majority of trophy trucks now use AEMs brute force intakes.

Add me to the list of people who would not run a K&N filter. Good OEM paper is your very best bet.

I have not noticed an increase in mpg. maybe a slight bit in performance.
However, ever sense i installed mine there is this wierd air sound that kinda sounds like a vaccum maybe? usually at idle or just barley enough throtle to keep speed constant, or when i turn the wheel at idle.
Anyone heard of this? or had the same problem?

Most likely you are just hearing the air flow going thru the filter, they sound
kind of weird.

Yep, the increased airflow causes more noise. Replace the stock air tube with a mandrel bent pipe and you'll really hear it.

beware of cold air intakes. they may actually hurt your vehicle as the K&N did on my '10 frontier 4.0. i LOST almost 1 mpg and it feels like i downshift sooner on hill pulls. i have taken mine off and am back to normal. i actually read a very interesting article on why this happens in a sport tuning magazine (i think it was the may issue). worth checking out. something about "swirling" the air around the maf sensor.
