It's got 100,5xx on it. I bought it with 94K.
The kicker was, when I bought it, there was a bad fan clutch, making the fan loud at all RPM's since it didn't freewheel at all. This covered up the chain whine. I knew about the problem, but didn't think my truck had it. Turns out, the fan noise was masking it. Imagine my surprise when I fixed the fan clutch! Makes me wonder if they didn't fix the fan clutch on purpose to sell the truck!
I still love my truck though, but Nissan should issue a recall for this issue. The whole point of having a chain instead of a belt is for durability.
NISSAN! ARE YOU LISTENING??

jhal1270,
Aren't you glad you don't have to do them for 4.6 hrs????
It sucks, I've done many for that time. Haven't done any
for cust pay time. Just checked All-Data, 5.9 for the front
cover + 3.0 for the primary and/or cam chains, that is
quite a difference from warranty time. Pays to be half deaf
and not hear the noise until warranty has expired!(just
kidding). Nice pictures.

I am lucky enough to be be by the hour at the shop I work. I have been on flatrate before and I hated it.
Nothing like playing beat the clock while trying to put out quality work. It is the scourge of the industry that turns honest people into crooks to make a paycheck.
I still manage to beat the times on most jobs, but 4.6 hours to do this job is absurd. If customers only knew the real truth about auto repair, maybe this industry would change.
Sorry, got a little worked up. Thanks for the compliments.

Just had a thought, the time in All-Data includes removing
the valve covers, etc. The reason the warranty time is so
low is that they revised the procedure and said it is not
necessary to remove the valve covers, the cam sprocket
bolts can be removed and torqued w/o using the hex on the
cam shafts to hold them. I use a spanner type oil filter
wrench to hold the VVT sprockets(don't like putting strain
on chain like Nissan wants it done).

Did an 06 Maxima(engine in the vehicle), 10 hrs. I'm
getting too old to struggle on jobs like that. I much
prefer the rear wheel drive vehicles for access. And yes,
the 3.5 is also included in this failure!!!

Hey guys. Quick question here.
My father just had this done on his truck. How long can he expect the new guide blocks/tensioners to last? Are the replacement parts different material or are we going to be tearing the truck apart again in another 80k?
thanks. -rpl
