As  a chemist and former chemistry prof, I can tell you that the amount of lead put into the environment during the years of leaded gas was enormous.  It could be found in wines as the lead oxides settled in the ssoil and were absorbed by the grape vines.  It was found in grains and other foods.  Only after a decade or so of non-use did the rain slowly push the lead far enough into the ground so that plant roots could not easily reach it.

..
Memory Lane - History… Key words “Business Coupe“ .
. In 1950 I traded my ‘40 Plymouth business coupe in
on a new 1951 Studebaker Champion business coupe I-6
Stick shift.
I couldn’t get the overdrive so I had them install a high
speed rear end. The car could be driven all day using
second gear only… In town or highway. Third gear was like
overdrive and it would get 27+ mpg

Look for picture in my gallery

Some day regular and king-cabs pick-ups may be a thing of
the past.

I was born before Superman.. Don S..

..

Most six's in those days had flat heads.
The Chevy's and GMC's were overhead. Ford ended up going
to overhead six's and V-8s a short time later.

Have some good ones.. Don S..
