Ughhhhh please tell me that Nissan will take
responsibility for the paint coming off of the roof of my
3 1/2 year old truck. If they won't, is there some way I
can get through to them take care of it? It's not my
fault at all that this is happening. I just noticed it
today and it looks like it is already starting to rust.

I'm going to try to post the picture on here if it will
let me.

Please give me some advise on how to get it covered under
warranty somehow!

J,

I have a white 2007 Frontier SE that I bought in July of
2007. I was washing my truck today and noticed that the
paint is chipping off in the roof channels. I'll post some
photos.

I have the same issue with my 2008 Frontier. They don't
use enough paint. I'm working up the courage to repaint it
myself. Good luck.

Just For Your Information: This Thread is from 16
years ago.

It's my understanding that because of the EPA, The Paint has
been reformulated so that it is not as durable as it was in the
past.

On My Truck, I knew that allready and hand wash mine gently
before it gets too dirty. I use the Nissan Touchup Paint for Very
Small Chips before they get larger. I try to wax mine a couple
time's a year. So far mine is holding up pretty good except in
the Rain gutters in the Roof Channel's. The Paint there is not
lifting but is cracking, and I need to start addressing that before
it gets worse, which it will start to lft and flake off, l if I don't do
anything.

Are You Going to Repaint the Whole Truck or a Small Section?

If Maaco is available in your area, they might be an option to
check into.

I can tell you though that doing a small area,, probly won't
match very good. If it is only something like the Roof Rain
Channels, You Tape and Cover Everything Else up Good and
Are Extremely Careful, that might come out acceptable.

Trying to Paint the Whole Truck is A Real Job, If You Do It Right.
Sanding, Tapeing, Primeing, Painting Takes A Whole Lot Of
Time and Work to do it Right, and Then It Still Might Not Come
Out Right.

You'll need to do it at least under the cover of something, if not
almost enclosed in, because of the Changeing Weather
Condition's ~ Especially The Rain.

FYI, I just finished sanding, taping, the rain channels. I
took my time, and used automotive style paint, and primer.
It wasn't rusted that bad, but I wanted to stop it before
it got to be a real chore. I have four coats of the gray,
and two coats of clear. It's not beautiful, as in pro
results but it's the same color, and will not rust again! I
love that truck. Now if I can get it to stop that clicking
noise behind the glove box. Well folks if you have the
rusting rain channels on your Frontier, get out the
sandpaper and take your time. Enjoy! Rick

I'm glad that you were able to get that done.

Many owners let it go till it spreads to the whole roof and then
start trying to figure out what to do.

I saw a Nissan Truck not too long ago,, where he didn't address
the paint chips, and half of his roof and whole hood was peeling.
Now he's going to need a big paint job,, and might need to paint
his whole truck. Just because he didn't address the small chips
before they started getting bigger.

Did you use Spray, roller or brush? I wonder if do just the
gutter that I might be able to get away with rustoleum, primer, &
Clear coat.

At some point I'll probly have to do the same thing on mine.
Right now,, mine is just showing a crack in the rain gutter paint,
but I know it's going to get worse.

I painted The Black Plastic Fog Light Inserts white useing
Rustoleum, Primer, & clear Coat. My Truck is QAK White,, and I
can't tell much difference in the paint color.   It's been a few
years since I did that,, and the rustoleum paint is still holding up
good on mine.   I thought that the rustolem would start to flake
off after a while but so far so good.

The Fog Light inserts is one thing,, but useing Rustolem on the
Auto Paint,, might be a totally different story getting the paint to
adhere and not start peeling.
