Got a 2005 Frontier 4X4, 120K,  it has a oil gauge not an idiot light.  Show an oil can with an 'H' and 'L' on top/bottom of the oil can.  My problem is as soon as I start the engine the gauge goes directly to the 'H'.  My question is it a electrical short?  As soon as I turn it off it goes to 'L'.  If it were the oil pump wouldn't it show it going gradually from 'L' to 'H', not just shoot up to the 'H'.

My 2013 doesn't have an actual Oil Pressure Gauge like
the older Frontier's did, so I can't say for sure, but it
doesn't sound like it's functioning as it should on
 Your's.

My Tractor has an Actual Oil Pressure Gauge, and on a
Cold Start the Gauge does go to the higher side, but I
don't recall it pegging on the High Side Limit. After
the motor Warm's Up, The Oil Pressure Gauge goes lower
and @ Full Operateing Temperature it is much lower
 especially when idleing.

My Advice is to get it checked out,, as You Need to have
a Fully Functioning Oil Pressure Gauge, in order to
prevent damage if an Oil Pressure Problem happen's,
Especially since Your Truck has 120K Mile's and is now 20
 Year's old.

Might be something related to the Oil filter or Something
 other than the Gauge Itself.
