I have a 2006 Frontier that was given to me by my brother.
The fuel gage seems to off by a lot.
Everything I read says the fuel tank holds21.5 gallons.
Yet when the gage reads empty, It will only take around 13
Gallons.
Any information would be appreciated.

I Alway's Try and Fill the tank On my '13 when the Gauge is @
1/4 Tank. When The Gas Pump Turn's off, It usually has put in
about 11 to 12 gallon's.
I have read that it's not good to run the Tank Close To Empty. I
don't know,, but Who Want's to Risk Running Out Of Gas.
My Advice is Fill Up When The Fuel Gauge Read's 1/4 Tank.
Different Gas Pump's May Shut off @ Different Level's. Try
filling up @ different Station's and DON'T KEEP FILLING ONCE
THE PUMP SHUT'S OFF ~ THAT'S BAD FOR THE FUEL
SYSTEM ON THE TRUCK.
Now There have been some Nissan Frontier's that had
problem's When Filling Their Fuel Tank's. I Thank there may
have been a Nissan Recall about this. You can do a Google to
Check it out about this issue.
Also when I Fill Up, I Alway's fill the tank slowly ~ If You are
filling the Tank as Fast as the Pump Can, That may cause the
pump to shut off too soon as well.

Still, your truck, like mine, has a 21 gallon fuel
capacity.
I understand about running your tank dry, or near to it.
No matter where you buy your fuel, there is bound to be
some detritus in the fuel you buy, along with the
possibility of rust from the tank itself. (Yes, gas tanks
can rust if you get water in them, and where I live in
the Pacific North Wet, that's almost unavoidable.)
While most fuel uptakes have a "filter" screen on the
uptake, they can get clogged and reduce or completely cut
off the fuel flow, causing run problems.
But the main takeaway I get from your reply is that the
Frontier does have problems with gage accuracy.
I believe I'll dig out my 2 gallon fuel can to carry some
spare fuel and drive this tank until it runs out or
reaches around 350 miles on this full tank.
That would be around 17 MPG for 21 gallons. Most of what
I meter now, 17 is about the average I'm getting around
town with the very lightweight (less than 100 lbs)
aluminum camper shell I've installed on it.
I could probably get better mileage if I changed the
catalytic converter out (the one it has I've been told is
clogged) but at 73, I'm not sure that I'm up to the job
and can't afford to hire it done.

I would get that catalytic converter checked out. A Clogged Cat
can cause multiple problem's. You want to be proactive on
those thing's. Seem's like they use a no contact temperature
reader to see how hot the cat is getting. Not sure about that, but
I do recall that they have way's to check the cat's out.
You might can save some money @ a Reputable Muffler Shop,
maybe Midas or other reputable shop. You might be able to
save money with a non Nissan Cat, but you'll need to check
them out to see if they are as good and if they are compatable.
I don't have a reference but you can google other forum's to see
what those guy's have used to save money instead of the
Nissan OE Brand.
My Truck has the V6, AT, KC, 2wd with the 2.937 Rear End. My
Average mpg is about 20.4 mpg, mixed ~ town, 2 lane,
Interstate, which I'm ok with.
Google showed that Nissan may have issued a recall on the
Fuel Sending unit's on some Frontier's. I would give Nissan
Consumer Affair's a call to see if your truck was in that.
So far I haven't had a problem with the Fuel Gauge on my '13.
Some Frontier's had problem's with refilling the gas tank
involveing the EVAP System. Something to do with the venting
getting clogged and shutting the gas pump off, etc. So far mine
hasn't had that problem, Yet..
