Welcome to the group!

Sorry to say but checking fuel mileage by the tank full is not even close to being accurate! The EPA checks & posts fuel mileage on a dyno and use real gasoline. We, the general public, are forced to buy crap for gasoline.

Colder climates will drop fuel mileage.

The aero dynamics, gear ratios and added weight of ALL 4x4s cut the mileage as do larger tires. From my observation most drivers (not saying you) waste fuel with lousy driving habits. They're driving too fast... they're accelarating too fast... They are either on the gas or on the brakes. They forgot to coast a little before braking for a stop.

You just don't hear many folks bragg about 4x4 fuel mileage.

Good Luck.. Don S..

I have a 2009 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 SE with the 4.0L engine and I am
averaging 18.2 miles per gallon or about 310 miles on a tank with about
2-3 gallons left over. I think this is about 498 km. When I drive
highway only I can get as much as 20 - 21 miles per gallon but that is
my best and driving from NJ to Florida for vacation.

I am thinking of adding a Cold Air Kit in the hopes of improving mileage
some. I also have a hard cover on the bed.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

My wife and I got our 2012 Frontier SV 4x4 V6 almost 3 weeks ago. Seems like I've had it for much longer though. The fuel mileage is taking all the fun out of the truck.
Right now i'm calculating a putrid 12.74 mpg combined.
I'm doing everything i can to get every ounce of economy out of the fuel. Minimal warm up time, slow stops, coasting to red lights.Even raised the tire pressure 2 pounds
I'm really disgusted since I've always met or exceeded epa estimates with our 5 other new cars we have purchased over the years.
I see most getting the average and some getting as high as in the 20's for highway...sometimes i can't help but to think that's bs.
On fuelly.com almost all frontiers with the same configuration as ours are getting within EPA averages?
Along with the piss pour mpg it also have a less than smooth idle when warm, actually vibrates the cabin.
i'm going to dealer tomorrow. i just hope they don't treat me like an idiot.
I really like the truck but I hate it too.

Wecome to the group.

Sounds like a real problem. A sensor or programing flaw. Can't you take it back to the dealer??

If that doesn't work for you please post a new topic about the problem in the Tech forum below here.

Good Luck.. Don S..
