I just installed a new aftermarket stereo in my 2004 Frontier Crew cab. Previously, it had the standard 6-speaker stereo. I did not have the Rockford Fosgate head unit.

I didn't connect the blue wire in my new stereo. I think it's supposed to go to the amp.

My question is: should I have conneted that blue wire? Does my truck have an amp?
I did not think so, but I noticed something electrical under the front console as I was running the wiring. I couldn't figure out what that might be, except maybe an amp. By that point I'd already soldered all the connections, so I didn't bother with the blue wire.

Thanks,

Antun

If you don't have the Rockford Fosgate head unit, I don't think you have the amp. It wasn't the Bose head unit either was it? Can you snap a pic of the mystery electronic component you are wondering about?

Its most likely the ECM (engine control module). Its a silver box mounted below the center console, towards the very front of the passenger compartment. The other silver box directly under the armrest of the center console is the SRS diagnosis system.

Check this pic, if it helps:

Better late than never I suppose, just noticed the post date. Go me.

Thanks for posting that. The box I was referring to was the Airbag diagnosis one, according to that diagram.

What book is that out of by the way? Is it the Haynes one?

Its actually a pic I saved. The building we own for out shop is split in half, and the other half is an auto repair place. They let me go over there and use their online thingy - pretty much every car in existence. I just save the stuff that is useful - Ive got almost all the wiring and mechanical diagrams for the major systems for the 2004 Frontier XE with VG33E.

If you need a specific thing, let me know. The pics I have are what I used to figure out my ignition system wiring, and bypass it all to do my push-button (or momentary spring-toggle in my case) ignition.
