I have a 2001 nissan frontier king cab 4x4 sc. the truck was great for about the first year, and then I would be driving and it would lose poser I heard that it is the fail safe mode for the sc. I could cut the truck off and it would reset it would do it about twice a week. it got worse so i started using octane booster and that helped, but now it's in fail safe mode all the time I can't get it to run right, and I have alway run 93 octane ever since i had it. any ideas?

eric's4x4sc:

Welcome to the group!

Hope someone can help better than this but... I've seen cases with my own eyes where Octane boosters have clogged up header pipes going into the catolitic convertors. It makes pinkish-brown clumps. It can get bad enough to stop the tngine from running a minute after starting.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

without it sitting on a machine, it's hard to say where your problems stem from.  One thing to try though is to get a bottle of Sea Foam.

Add some to your fuel, and then use a little through your brake booster hose.  The maxima forums have the exact procedure on what to do.  Off memory though it was to have some one in the truck keep the RPMs up.  You pull the hose and use your thumb to plug it off so it doesn't die right away.  As the other person keeps the RPMs around 1500 you slowly add some Sea Foam through the line, little pour the plug with thumb, pour again the plug.  You repeat enough to get 3 or 4 oz i believe into the system then shut it off.  Let it sit for 30 mins then start it up again... preferably outside away from houses.  Unless you hate your neighbors, then right in front of their house.  Because it's going to smoke like a bitch.

I used this on my 90 Maxima once or twice a year to clean out the upper intake.  Keeps the sensors clean.
