My 2003 Nissan Frontier XE extended cab, 4 cyl, 5 speed has an a/c belt that squeels when the compressor kicks in.  It has just had replacement belts put on it and notice the adjuster located underneath is bottomed out...all the way out.  Correct belt for I triple checked it.  Question.....is there any adjustment on the compressor itself like back in the day when you pulled the compressor away from the engine?  Or, is the adjuster on the bottom the ONLY adjustment avail.?  Sure is aggrivating hearing the squeel and worse hearing my wife gripe about it!  Sure could use some help.

..

Welcome to the group!

Parts houses sell belt dressings that can stop the slipping but a some mechanics don't recommend it.

Have a good one while you can still laugh about it.. Don S..

the bottom adjustment is the only adjustment.  If it's the correct belt, and that far out, then you might want to try getting a smaller one.  Take the old one off and go down to a parts store and tell them what's going on.  If you have a decent parts guy they'll take the old one in the back and compare them side by side.

Now did you do the replacing or did you pay a shop?  Shops can be shady and will claim they have done the work and not touch a thing.  They might not have even replaced the belt at all but only adjusted it out.

Being that mechanic, I can tell you that some of the sprays work.  But if it's squeeling, it's a sign something is wrong.  Be it a belt that has stretched some (normal), or a worn belt that needs replacing.  And putting spray onto a belt that needs replacing is just asking for it to snap on you while out in the middle of no where.

Did the work myself and took the old (stock) belt with me to assure I got the right one.  You are right, a shorter belt would be the answer but as you know the a/c belt is the last one to take off and the first one to put on.  Was hoping I could adjust the compressor so I did not have to take "all" the belts off.  When the adjuster bottomed out I knew I was in trouble!  Did try the spray stuff, but that lasted about a day...just not the right tension on the belt to keep it from chirping and time and squeeling at times.  Thanks to all for the information.

Get a Genuine Nissan belt and throw that belt dressing in the garbage.
