My 2003 frontier 4cyl heats up when idling in traffic in gear and with ac on.  Ok on the highway.  Also noticed transmission pulls rpms down to 400 when this occurs.  fan clutch did not fix.  Could transmission or injectors be the culprit?

Well the first thing i would do is inspect the cooling system and thermistat consider the radiator could be clogged water pump could be faulty. And you could very well have a clogged exhaust system, catalatic converter usually. These are just a few things now the trans mission was not mentioned im assuming its a automatic and I would consider getting the trans flushed and inspected by a perfessional. There are so many trouble shooting opptions that can play in this issue.

idling is the most common time to overheat because your not
getting any air to engine. turn the heater on to suck hot
air out.
