I just got a 2003 crew cab frontier sc.  I really like the truck so far.  But, like all my other vehicles I need to mod it.  With the SC what is the right performance upgrades to use.

Dannyg here sounds like a nice ride. Sice you have a S/C I would look into some headers or a cat back system to help move some of that forced air. Welcome to the fourm mat_rad73

Thanks

I have been thinking about that. but all the headers I have found say they are not for the SC engine.   I just looked at changing the plugs and that not going to be fun.  The supercharger is hung over the drivers side the engine and it looks like with a couple extensions and a swivel I think I can get to all of them.  I have done some searching on the net to see if there were any maunals or anything and the ones I have found again say not for the SC engine.

Matt

They used to put a plug wrench in with the tire tools. Not sure if they still do.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

Hi matt_rad73, I too am new to this forum and have an '03 S/C purchased in that year.  I have joined to research for help with maintenance and upgrading the Eaton M62 and have found precious little in the aftermarket upgrade parts bin.

The most irritating of which is a complete maintenance manual for S/C models.  Have you found one?  I have installed a K&N fresh air, throttle body spacer,  Magnaflow cat back, and Optima RedTop battery for my only engine performance upgrades. I have vented brake rotors, Rancho Shocks, and spring over-riders, but suspension is another thread.

I am looking at the only other upgrade I have found for the S/C motors, a selection of smaller diameter S/C pulleys for faster spin, but was leery of the warnings of reduced bearing life.  However, now that my Eaton M62 sounds more like a coffee mill of idle, it must be time for the oil and coupler change I have read is quite common, if not a rebuild.  While I have it open, I'm just going to rebuild  it in any case, replacing the rear bearing set, nose bearing, and seal.  I will likely
also mildly reduced pulley size.

I have heard, parenthetically from product specialist friends at Nissan, that these vehicles suffer form a less than robust transmission and so, though the motor and S/C combo is capable of much more, it has been held back to compensate.  I suspect that CA emissions laws restrict enhancement of S/C motors, or at the very least the S/C complicates application of race bits for civilian application.  Frankly, I was surprised to find that the name of this supercharger manufacturer didn't even come up in a search of this thread??

Back to the forum search for me. Good luck with yours,
Mark S
