I have an 05 LE Crew Cab 4X4.  I recently had the front pads and rotors replaced and the back pads replaced.  When in reverse I get a pulsing squeak/rub from the rear.  It speeds up as I speed up.  I thought it was the pads breaking in but it has been over a month.  There is no sound when going forward.  I got some aerosol squeak stopper from pep boys today but it didn't help.  I put the rear on jack stands and rotated the wheels but didn't get any noise.  In rolling down the driveway backwards and shifting to neutral the sound seems to stop.  So now I'm worried it's something with the drivetrain, but the sound didn't start until after the brake job.  Any ideas?  Thanks,

Andrew

When you are rolling down the driveway is your foot on the brake pedal or not? Are they Genuine Nissan pads? If they are, there is a lot of metallic particles in them, making them particularly noisy especially in reverse. The noise will come and go as some particles wear away and then others appear with pad wear.

The brake being applied or not applied doesn't seem to change the sound.  It just speeds up or slows down with my speed.  To be honest I don't know what kind of pads they are, but I had my local shop do the job so I would guess they are not.  It's really not too big of a deal it's just when I'm parked and pulling out of a parking spot it's kind of embarrassing/annoying when it squeeks.  I was just worried that it could be something serious.  Should I get it checked out or do you think it's probably the brakes?

Does the sound change with more or less brake pressure? Possible brake backing plate rubbing???

Oddly enough, the sound doesn't really change with brake pressure.  It doesn't sound like brakes, it makes a sound like something is rubbing, not a metal on metal sound more of a rubbing almost like a squeaky suspension.  Sometimes it's louder than other times.

Try putting some moly grease on the rear spring wrap around clamps-if you look you will see where they are rubbing on the springs.

don't mean to hijack your post, but i have a similar problem.  i hear a very similar squeak, but i haven't checked for it much in reverse.  i hear it mainly going forward.  i posted this under "Topic: Squeeking from drivetrain" in this forum (link below).  I just thought if the issues were similar, you'd be interested.

I still have the issue. I backed down the driveway with the door open
and the squeeking is coming from under the truck, the middle or the
back, not from the wheels. It is coming from the drive shaft or the rear
differential. Don't really know why it only squeeks in reverse. I do hear
a slight chirping noise when coasting/braking in gear and not under
load. I guess I'm going to have to take it in. I tried spraying the joint of
the drive shaft with wd40 but it didn't change the noise at all. At this
point I'm guessing it's from the rear diff. Maybe needs oil, have 71k
miles. Any other ideas?

Update: Squeaking is gone!
As mentioned in the previous post, I sprayed the joints of the drive shaft with WD40 on Sunday and the sound continued.  Well, it must have needed time to work in because on Monday, the sound was gone!  We had a tough winter in Virginia and the salt and sand from the road must have gotten into the joints of the drive shaft.  I sprayed the front and rear joints.  Hope this helps.

Instead of spraying the u joint you should replace it, if you take it apart you
will most likely see the needle bearings are all rust.
