I have a 2007 Ford Sport Trac with 61,000 miles and I'm thinking of replacing it with a 4X4 Fronier Club Cab.  I don't go off-road but do drive on plenty of dirt roads or roads tortuered with frost heaves every winter.  I'm looking for a heavy duty commuter vehicle that won't slow down with a little snow, ice or flooding.  My Sport Trac has been excellent but I easily put 17K miles a year on a vehicle and will need someting new fairly soon.  Since Ford has decided to end the Sport Trac line I'm left with trying to find a 2010 or going elsewhere.  The Frontiers are very nice and I test drove one today.

What is the average milage people are getting with the 6 cylinder?  My Sport Trac averaged 18mpg.

Do the Frontiers like regular gasoline or would they really prefer premium?  My ST loves regular.

How is the 4X4 through ice and snow?  Is it light in the backend (being a pickup) or is it weighted well?  My ST, being an SUV was weighted nicely.  I never had to add tube sand or anything in the winter.

Are there any details I'm not realizing that would make the Frontier superior to the Ford Sport Trac?

Thanks for all or any replies.

With Amsoil 100% synthetic oil, 18mpg winter, 20-22mpg in summer, very sensitive to the amount of pressure the right foot exerts on the gas pedal. It may run better on hi test, but it seems to run just fine on regular( I am not equipped with a built in dyno nor am I sensitive enough to notice the difference). I have a set of aggressive snows mounted on steel wheels for winter time and off road use, haven't needed any weight in back yet.Just being a Nissan makes it superior to a ford!!!!
