I love the look of the 2010 SE V6 auto Crew Cab truck and the feature set

I've poked around here but could use some help from those who've
experienced the vehicle directly:
1) I enjoy doing my own maintenance (oil change, tire rotations, etc) -
how hard is it on this vehicle?

2) What oil is required for the V6, the amount and the oil change interval?

3) I've read horror stories on the gas mileage... has the situation improved
with the latest vehicles?

4) I plan on using this as a commuter, family trip and weekend project
vehicle... does it fit the bill?

Thanks for the help,
savvy

I have a 2007 Crew SE with  4WD.  I do my own oil changes, change the oil in both diffs and the transfer case and drain the tranny pan and add new fluid.  Nissan makes this easy with drain plugs in all of these areas.  Just remeber to take out the fill plug before you drain to make sure you can get new fluid in!  Also, there are copper crush gaskets and aluminum washers that are used; both are easily obtained at the dealer.  I changed my engine oil, both diffs and the transfer case at about 1100 miles.  Lots of break-in junk is formed early and I'm a big believer in getting it out.  I had the dealer change the coolant at 25,000 miles.

Oil in my V-6 is always Mobil 1 5W-30 with a NAPA Gold or Purolator Pure 1 filter.  Takes 5-3/8quarts.  Any good oil will do but under warranty, my dealer recommended 5000 mile changes.  Nissan says 3750 for sever and 7000 (I think) for all highway.  I follow the 5000 advice under warranty with the synthetic oil.

I broke my truck in very carefully and I burn no oil between changes and am now at 30,000 miles.  Miuleage goes as high as 25 mpg highway in the summer and as low as 14 mpg in the city in the dead of winter.  I generally burn 93 octane to achieve my mileage but others will run regular.  Owners manual suggests at least 91 octane for optimum power.

I have taken my truck on a 2000 mile round trip to hunt bear in Quebec province.  Did great!  Also ran it with my wife fro near Philly to Savannah, GA and back and loved it.   We moved last year and I hauled a 1000 pound gun safe about 125 miles through the mountains of central PA and still got 22 mpg.

So far, very pleased with the truck after three years.  Hope this helps.

I have a 2008 with 23K, I have a crew cab LWB, 4X4. I absolutely love this truck. I have never gotten less than 18 MPG, I got a high of 25MPG driving from Sacramento to Medford, OR. 70 mph with lots of cruise control. Truck has great brakes, and power is great too.

I am impressed with the low end torque, no need to rev over 2500 unless you are climbing a hill.

use standard 5W30 oil, replace every 3000 miles. Tires are rotated every 5000 miles, no issues there either.

The 4X4 has been excellent in my snow trips to Lake Tahoe.

I test drove a Tacoma before buying my Frontier, and I just liked the seating position so much better, the tacoma felt like I was driving a truck with a low profile drivers seat. Tacomas have had problems with ther rear drum brakes, nissan has 4 wheel discs. Nissan was $4500 cheaper for me, I used Costco auto program and had prices emailed to me directly from the dealer.
