I have just over 73000 miles and my check engine light came on while I was driving down the road. "No problem" I tell myself as I have a code reader to diagnose whither I need to really do something or not. Strange thing is that the code reader just kept reading error. I thought this was odd and perhaps the reader itself was going bad so I tried it on the little woman's car and the tool worked just as it's intended to.
Is this an indication that the ECU may be going bad? Will a repair shop be able to read it with their state of the art computer gizmos?
I just need some guidance, if anyone has a clue.
I have the Crew Cab with the 6 cyl 4.0 liter engine with 4 wheel drive.

Well I went out after supper and pulled the negative battery wire off and it cleared the check engine light, but the code reader still won't read it.
Still kinda concerned about not being able to read the ECU.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Might want to go to the dealer and have them scan it. Could be a multitude of concerns.

Well I had the thing in a local shop today and they tell me that it needs a "Vent Valve" on the charcoal canister.
I *THINK* this is the correct part.
I have the 4.0L V6 engine.
Now if I just had a diagram of where that part is located I could possibly find the thing and figure out if it needs replacing or if it's just clogged.

That is it, but as you have seen me state before, I have no faith in aftermarket parts. There is also a filter kit available for your vehicle to help keep the valve clean. The valve is attached to the canister above the rear axle on the left side of vehicle.

I finally got this item replaced and I manually reset the ECU by unplugging the wiring harness to it under the hood. Took me about 10 minutes to do and most of that time was spent trying to figure out how the thing came off. Very simple thing to do.
Thanks for the input.
