I had the frontier loaded up earlier today with about 1500lbs of patio tiles and sand and when I was driving home I noticed the truck was jolting a lot .

I was doing 55mph and the engine was running about 1800rpm. I turned on the overdrive and the rpm went up to 2250 rpm but I noticed the jolting still but not as bad. I went back for another load and when the truck is empty it drives fine (so far). It really is bad when you have the cruise control on too??

Now I run the truck on 87 octane since gas prices hit the roof, so I am wondering if its holding itself back with the anti-knock or is it transmission related with coolant leaking into the transmission. When I came home and let it cool down I checked the engine coolant level and all seemed ok and with no sign of contamination in the reservoir. Any ideas

My truck is a 2008 V6 SE with the VQ 4 litre Auto

When the trans starts to fail, it is described by owners as
feeling like you are driving over rumble strips, usually
around 40 mph with very lite throttle. It is very possible
you need the higher octane if you will be hauling heavy
loads.

Yeah, somehow I think it is the 87 octane causing this. I am driving to Spokane,WA and into Idaho on Monday and I am going to fill her up with 92 octane and give her a good run and see how she runs going over the Cascades with a load in her
