2005 2.4L 4 cylinder.
My fiance is on deployment right now and we let a friend
borrow his truck. She just called me and told me that
while driving to work, the RPM's spiked up to stop the
truck from going faster than 35ish MPH.
She took it to the base mechanic and they read the codes
for the CEL (lucky me she didn't give me the codes) and
apparently they said that it's the transmission control
module. They said the truck put in a transmission lock to
protect the transmission which is why the truck won't go
over 35. I can't find anything anywhere on this and they
want to charge $1000 to fix it.
Any ideas? Sorry I don't have the codes. I've asked so
many times for them.

It's called Limp Mode. Really need the codes to help
determine what the concern is. Might want to get it checked
at the dealer if possible.

yeah I've dealt with the hobby shop mechanics before.
Being an actual mechanic myself I'm usually not impressed
with them.
Definitely need the codes to help out even more.

Alright, finally got some codes... They think that these
are the ones that they pulled off, our friend refuses to
drive it down to the mechanic to get it read again...
P0700
P0702
and maybe P0701
Any thoughts? I would love to not have to spend a grand to
get this fixed.

You might want t o check with the dealer, there is a NTB
that requires checking the integrity of the terminals for
the TCM first. (P0700 is for the TCM failure)

Thanks, will do that during my upcoming holiday leave. One
thing our friend said was that the mechanic said that it
could be caused by off-roading. My fiance took his truck
mudding shortly before he left and the mechanic blamed this
on that mudding trip. Does that make it seem like it could
be easily fixed terminals? Like maybe the TCM got jostled
around a bit and one of the terminals got messed up?
Thank you again for your help!

The TCM is located in the valve body w/in the trans.,
anything is possible. Might want to take a real good look
at the trans. pan for damage and the harness out side of
the trans.

The mechanic has informed us that the Valve Body needs to
be repaired but I'm having a hard time finding the part.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
