Looking to buy a used Frontier, and recnetly came across a S/C with 117k on a 2003 model.  What should I be concerned with? Should I say away from the S/C models? Reliablity issues?  What breaks?  Easy fix?

Thanks

-Drew

I have a 2001 SC with about 113K miles. I've got a long list of little problems, but none to do with the SC. In my own opinion, this truck would be a DOG without a SC.
Rumors have been spread that due to the higher operating temperatures, the engines won't last as long. I can't say that I believe this to be true, just by comparing my engine temp to others via laser reader.
To be honest, every used vehicle is different. You can try to compare two used SC's of similar year and mileage and they can have completely different problems.
As far as common problems go, I don't know of any except maybe the knock sensor. When the KS goes out, it sends the unit into bypass mode, which trips a valve so that your engine operates as a normally aspirated engine and not forced intake, this is only to prevent any further damage.
I've enjoyed owning my SC, but I would say take it to a trusted mechanic and have it checked out in full.

PS I am not a certified mechanic, I only tinkerer. Hopefully, others with more insight will reply. And how much are they asking for the truck?

quite honestly I'm not impressed with the S/C they used.
Though I've heard from those who own them have managed to
squeeze potential out of them.

As for the motor itself they're solid motors, but not
perfect. Show me a motor that is always perfect, and I'll
show you a motor that manufacturers will want to get rid
of. Can't make any money off a motor that doesn't need
parts.
