The backup lights on my '12 Frontier are not putting out enough lumens to assist when I must drive in reverse after dark where streetlights and other ambient light are producing glare. I searched automotive catalogs but have come up with nothing in terms of better bulbs. I do realize that fusing has to be considered when doing a bulb replacement. Can anyone offer advice on getting better reverse illumination?

Your best bet at this point is just to add lighting. Just
pick up a set of fog lights.

Would LED's help instead of the stock bulbs? My 08 is the
same way.

Yes and no. the LEDs can put out more light, but the
housing itself is the biggest limiter.

I would at something like this. You could get 2 holes
cut into the bumper and tie the wires into the reverse
wiring.

Grommets/dp/B004NYOHK8

Here's an idea of how much more it'll put out. This is a
custom bumper on a Xterra, but the light output will give
yo an idea.

Ha, @ kcidmil, thanks for pic, that's an amusing idea, to put foglights facing backward on the back of the truck. I did get my OEM foglights (finally, 9 1/2 weeks after I ordered and paid for them) - installed in the right place which is to say the dimples in the lower front but haven't had a good fog yet to test them out. The switch is a circular one on the light switch wand to the left of the steering wheel. I had expected the switch to be installed in the empty spot on the console, so it took me a few minutes to discover how to turn the darn things on.

Anyway, that's a great idea to have a whole extra set for backing, if I can't meet my needs with better bulbs.

Yeah it can come in real handy. I'm not too worried about
it with my XT though, when we had the stereo replaced with
a Pioneer I had them put a night vision backup camera on.
