My check engine light recently came on. My Frontier is 8 yrs old with only 32500 miles on it. Took it to the dealer, found a hole corroded in the top of the gas tank. I live in Michigan, so I know the winters and road salt take their toll on vehicles. But...I honestly thought all gas tanks are now made of plastic, so how does this happen?

Thanks!

Because, honestly it is made out of metal. 05 and up are
plastic. Talk to your senator, tell them to quit putting
salt on the roads.

..

A fuel tank can rust from the inside and/or the outside. I have repaired inside rust leaks from the outside! Temporary repairs can be made with the slow cure J.B.Weld. Patch areas must have the rust removed, be rough sanded, clean and dry. Imbed large patch areas with fiberglass.

I have patched gasoline fuel tanks 25 years ago that are still in service and not leaking.

Good luck.. Don S..
