Howdy..

    Has any one had problems accessing or getting on to the Nissan Frontier forum? I have unable to get on quite often the last 30 days. I have been doing battle with a lot of spammers.

   One spammer posted about 20 posts a couple of days ago… It took a while to delete them all.

    And then there's one idiot spamming rule breaker that manages to change his/her IP (like a server address) at will. I block their IP and they come right back with another one. I say ‘her’ because of some of the questions and drivel that they post. I’m beginning to think this person may be highly versed in computer tech and causing me or the whole forum some hacking type problems.

    Please post some replies as to any problems you have seen.

I’ve been trying to keep this forum clean for over seven years and a lot of the time I’m the only moderator on the job!

First off I’d like to thank kcidmil. He is a great guy and the only other moderator that’s been active the last five years. He doesn’t post much at times due to military deployment.

Spamming is unauthorized advertising and junk messages. There will be a link in a spam message to a site to show how to buy their product. Spam, if left unchecked, can clutter message boards (and servers) like ours making us scroll through garbage we’re not interested in. Some small message boards like this do not have automated blocking programs for spam “bots” that automatically register like a member and post the spam. So far I think all the people that have put spam on this site are individuals that are paid to join the site and post the advertising messages. Most spam is posted about 1:30 am CST and I’m guessing it’s from China.

There is a possibility the server for this site is intermittently shutting down for repair or to conserve power. It’s also possible my/our anti-virus programs intermittently treat Frontier Forums as a hostile threat and block access.

I get several e-mail spams a week from Face Book wanting me to add friends I’ve never heard of. Yes I joined that crap in a non thinking moment because many of my family had but when I learned of the underhanded stuff that FB does I quit logging on. The use of Face Book is causing the demise of smaller message boards like this one.

Warning… Do Not put anything in your computer you wouldn’t want the world to know about. This is the age of hackers, identity thieves, commercial interests and BIG BROTHER and they can see into your computer if it‘s on line! Also I delete the computer ‘cookies’ once a week or more.

I hope everyone is enjoying a nice holiday. We are and even had a White Christmas in north central Texas.

Since my last post I’ve only had to ban two spammers... They must be taking a holiday too. And I could not get on the site several times and it was all day on the 27^th . The ‘sister site’ Titans was also down all day so it does seem to be a server problem.
