We bought a diesel VW Passat back in early May and now have about 8300 miles, almost all highway, on it.  Since we bought it new, the average mileage is right at 50 and we have gotten as high as 58 mpg on long trips!!!  Needless to say, the  miles put on the Fronty at 22 mpg  on hi-test have diminished severely.  I have only put 2200 miles on it since mid-February.  I don't think I will ever buy another gas powered car.

I would love a Fronty with a nice 4 cylinder diesel and a stick.  Lots of torque, much better mileage and the satisfaction of using a fuel that is more efficient to produce from crude oil than gasoline.  Oh well, I can dream.....

..

That sounds great!...
Our Frontiers fuel mileage is restrained by aerodynamics
and Ethanol. I even got good fuel mileage in my Frontier
out of 83 octane in Colorado. I haven’t put high test in
anything since 1989. When those corrupt people start
putting 15 to 20% Ethanol in the gas I’ think about a
getting diesel. A friend has a Ford diesel pick up and
is very happy to get 17 - 18 MPG and it pulls more but it
cost him more to buy and operate than his gas rig that
only got 11 to 12 MPG.

Just wait ‘til they figure out how to add corn juice to
the diesel fuel…
Good Luck.. Don S..

I have posted here before that my 2007 Fronty 6 cyl gets better mileage and costs less per mile to operate on hi test.  Mileage falls to below 18-19 on regular but I can get up to 24-25 mpg on hi test gas.  Since the premium is at most $0.30/gallon around here, that is about an 8% premium to get a much larger gain im mpg.  Every vehicle responds differently.  I think mine does well on the higher octane because it never really downshifts on hills.  On regular, it downshifts or satys in lower gears to prevent engine load/pinging/knocking.
