I recently replaced the EVAP canister along with the vent valve for it,as about a year ago the purge valve had charcoal in it and was holding open. Then I did the old trick of putting an inline gase filter right before entry into the purge valve and all has been good/no engine lights for about a year.I replaced the steel tubing running from back to front of truck that plumbs the canister to the purge valve with copper tubing,as the original tube is packed full of charcoal and I can't get it out (tried compressed air).Weather got really bad so I stopped and plugged off vacuum going to the canister and drove about 20 miles home.About not even a mile from home, truck was bucking and slow rough idling at traffic lights.Next day didn't make it out of the neighborhood.Towed it back home and started looking it over.It will start right up but after about 15 seconds or so will quit.I can keep it running by rapidly tapping the accelerator, but it will not respond to any smooth or gradual acceleration. So far I've checked fuel pressure, throttle positioning sensor,MAF sensor, fuel pressure regulator, and checked for voltage going to the aforementioned components.I have the IAC valve off,and it ohm tests ok...BUT,the pintle has a bit of freeplay in it.Might that be suspect?

Remove the dist cap, rotor and cover to inspect for
debris in the distributor. Blow it out if so.

I replaced the cap, rotor, and plugs as they were wasted..starts right up like before, but would'nt stay running or accelerate like before w/o rapidly pumping the accelerator.I unplugged the MAF sensor and it will stay idling, but still won't accelerate-like it's not getting enough fuel or too much air.I backprobed the connector-am getting 12.8 volts to sensor and it is grounding like it should.Ofcourse I can't backprobe the signal wire cause it won't stay idling plugged in.MAF sensor?...I just want to make sure before I go throwing 50-125$ for one (no one local has one).

AGAIN, remove the inspection plate in the dist. to check
for any debris. Also clean the MAFS with MAFS cleaner.
Have you scanned for any codes?

When you say inspection plate,is that under the coil?I already sprayed the MAF sensor, but it looked clean to begin with.BTW,the sensor was replaced almost 2 years ago with one that was 34.50$ online.

That "ONLINE" MAFS may be your problem. Seen a lot of
after market parts fail. Have you tried cleaning it, I
have seen the smallest spec of dirt or bug mess them up.
Are you using a genuine Nissan oil impregnated air
filter?????

Cat does not appear to be clogged.Upon more checks, the MAP sensor won't hold vacuum.I back probed it and it has 5 volts like it's supposed to do.I applied a vac pump to it and it will not hold.

It's been a long time since I've messed with a "98, but
I don't believe the MAP sensor will cause your concern.
