Hey guys, looking to buy my first car as a 19 year old.
I was looking at an Altima Coupe 2008 2.5. I found one
guy who was selling it for 3500$ CAD with 185k km on
it. He told me he was a mechanic and took lots of care
of the car. He told me he replaced the transmission 2
months ago and that the front brakes and one bearing
had to be changed. He told me he would change them
himself if I was seriously interested in buying the
car. I test drove the car and everything felt pretty
good other than having to press on the brakes pretty
hard.
I know the problem with this car is the CVT but since
he replaced it, it sounds like a good deal. He also
owns 4 other cars and he genuinely sounded like he took
good care of all his cars. He was okay with me asking
for a PPI but just wanted to know if you guys think
this is a good purchase.

My advice is to buy a Brand New Basic 2.5L Frontier so
you'll have a warranty, if you can afford the
payment's and Take Really Really Good care of it, ie
No Abusive Off Road, No Mudding, No Intensional Water
Crossing, and No Wheeling. Be Smart and Drive it to
make it last as long as possible.
Buying used is a Crap Shoot,, especially if you don't
know what to look for like a Trained Mechanic would.
Don't Trust Anybody when it come's to buying a Used
Car or Truck, Even from a Nun or Preacher. They all
will say, Oh, I didn't know about that, sorry it's
Your Car/Truck now.
Nissan is giveing some great deal's on New Frontier's
Now. Go to TrueCar.com and build just a basic 2.5L
2wd Automatic preferred. The lowest price paid is Out
The Door. So if they got it for that price,, so can
you. Not all dealership's will sell it to you at that
price so,, you have to go to several dealership's till
they'll sell at the lowest price.
Get preapproved from your bank or credit
union(preferred) at the lowest interest rate for the
longest term. Use the money that you were going to
pay for a used Car to put on the loan, so your
payment's are as low as possible.
Again I wish I had gotten a Truck instead of a Car for
my Very First Vehicle. With a pickup you can move
yourself, haul all your appliance's, haul all your
gear, Put the Greasy stuff in the Bed, Put the
Building material's in the Bed, etc, etc, etc.
Again be Smarter than I was,, Don't Get a Car,, Get a
Truck,, and Get a Brand New One.
That's My Advice, whatever it is worth to you,
Good Luck,

I bought my 08 Nissan Altima Coupe in 2008 brand new.
It was my first brand new car and I'm still in love
with it even though I don't own it any longer. I put
over 50k miles on it in 3 years. I took it on long
drives from Omaha to Chicago and Omaha to
Indianapolis. The seats were so comfy that my butt was
never abused. The acceleration was always great even
though it was a 4 cyl. I had no problems getting
around in the winter during some bad snowfalls. The
only reason I traded it in was because I needed to get
a bigger car for a family. When I think of my silver
2008 Altima I get a little tear in my eye as I
wistfully remember how great of a car it was.

The value of a used 2008 Nissan Altima ranges from
$1,438 to $4,316, based on vehicle condition, mileage,
and options.

With its sporty suspension tuning (especially in coupe and
3.5 SE sedan guise) and quick steering, the 2008 Nissan
Altima provides enthusiasts with one of the most enjoyable
midsize coupes and family sedans available. Ride quality is
still comfortable throughout the line, and road and wind
noise are subdued.

The good The 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe injects some sporty
styling into an affordable model. For a front-wheel drive
car, the four-cylinder Altima Coupe displays some
respectable performance characteristics to go with its
admirable fuel economy.
